Largest film academy in Asia
BFA(Beijing Film Academy) is the only film academy in China and the largest film academy in Asia with 263 faculty members and 2364 students, including 48 PhD students, 422 graduates, 1894 undergraduates and 84 overseas students.
Our teaching philosophy is “prioritizing technological basis and fostering artistic spirit”. For decades, BFA has educated thousands of movie practitioners for China. Of the directors, photographers, artists and sound engineers who are currently active in China’s filmmaking business, over half had graduated from BFA. Several BFA graduates have won international film festival awards such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice for many times. Directors Xie Fei, Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Jia Zhangke, Wang Quan’an and photographers Gu Changwei, Zhao Fei are the most famous alumini of BFA.
World-class teaching and practice equipment
BFA has four professional studios and perfect teaching and practice equipment, including professional photography equipment like the ARRI ALAXA, ARRI LIGHTS, KINO Flo, PANTHER, STEADICAM, and post-production equipment such as QUANTEL and DA-VINCI. Our library covers an area of 2057 square meters with the collection of 325,600 books and 1897.0GB e-books.
International exchange and cooperation
BFA has been actively promoting international exchange and cooperation. BFA was absorbed by the association of the world's major film and television schools, CILECT (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision), as a member university in 1984, elected as a council member in 1988 and elected as the executive chairman of CILECT annual meeting in the Asia-Pacific region in 2002. In November 2008, BFA successfully held the "2008 CILECT Congress" , attracting more than 200 presidents and delegates of nearly 100 member institutions from 48 countries. BFA has established cooperation and exchange relations with nearly 30 films institutions from over ten countries and regions, featuring film professional education, academic research, teacher exchange visits, creative design and other aspects. 38 domestic and international film artists as well as experts and scholars who specialize in film education and the film academic theory research have been hired as visiting professors and part-time professors of BFA.
In November 2012, BFA held the 11th International Student Film and Video Festival. Since 2001, BFA annually selects 80 works out of nearly 1,000 student works from more than 50 countries to participate in the festival and a week of screening in Beijing. It has become the largest and most influential student film festival in Asia.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, BFA ranked third among world’s film academies for two consecutive years.
First recruitment of international undergraduates
The School of Photography of BFA begins to recruit international students from 2013. The course is open to students from all over the world and is taught in English.We provide students with advanced practice environment. We welcome young people from all over the world who love movie industry and are willing to work in filmmaking area to join BFA and learn the art and skill of filmmaking together with Chinese students. We hope film talents from different cultural backgrounds can mingle and grow together here in BFA.
